I was supposed to talk with Lisa Graves today about the big cabinet nominee's senate confirmation hearings happening this week... Unfortunately, she got stuck in an important meeting that ran waaaay over, and she never made it. Good think there's a lot going on, so there was no shortage of news and information to talk about. And I got to share some crazy clips from the RFK Jr hearing today. We'll get Lisa back on soon, I promise. Here's what the show was supposed to be....
I spent the morning getting really frustrated, watching Bobby Kennedy Jr’s confirmation hearing in the Senate Finance Committee. Sadly, there’s more to come, as there will be a second hearing tomorrow for him, this one in the HELP (Health, Education, Labor & Pensions) committee.
Tomorrow might be a double-Xanax day, as the Senate Judiciary Committee will convene their confirmation hearing for Kash Patel to head the FBI.
And while all of this is going on, this new dictatorial administration is rolling out new rules like there’s no tomorrow (and at this rate, there may not be!). They rescinded the pause on federal grants & funding, then rescinded the rescission, or something like that. Confusing, yes. By design.
Oh, and the orange idiot now says he’ll send undocumented immigrants to a new concentration camp at Guantanamo Bay.
Lisa Graves is our guest today. She’s got the legal chops to help us through, having served in the DoJ under both AG Janet Reno and John Ashcroft. She was also chief counsel for nominations for Sen Patrick Leahy when he chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee. These days, she’s Executive Director of True North Research where she investigates the bad guys doing really bad things. That includes a huge report on Project 2025, which is now being put into place, executive order by executive order. And a profile of Kash Patel who’ll lie to the Senate Judiciary Committee n his second hearing, tomorrow.
